What is the Steca collection?
The Steca collection brings together solar charge controllers from the Solarix PRS and PR with display families, designed for off-grid 12/24 V systems. These are PWM controllers of 10, 15, 20, and 30 A that prioritize reliability, ease of use, and battery care, with electrical protections and charging algorithms suitable for lead-acid and sealed batteries (check lithium battery compatibility via external BMS).
Advantages and limitations
- Simple and very robust PWM architecture: excellent cost/performance ratio for small PV systems.
- Automatic 12/24 V detection and protections against reverse polarity, short circuit, and overload.
- PR versions with display to view voltages, currents, and charge status.
- Large terminals and passive cooling for demanding environments.
- Limitations: for large strings or high PV voltage, an MPPT offers higher performance and flexibility.
Applications
- Electrical autonomy in caravans, marine, and shelters.
- Telemetry, irrigation huts, and autonomous lighting.
- Compact solar kits with one or several panels in parallel.
How to choose your Steca
- Current (A): sum the short-circuit current (Isc) of the panels, apply a safety factor (≈1.25), and choose 10/15/20/30 A according to the result.
- System voltage: 12/24 V according to battery and inverter.
- With/without display: PR series for local reading and basic settings; PRS for maximum savings and simplicity.
- Cable section and distance: size to minimize voltage drop between panel–controller–battery.
Indicative specifications
| Nominal voltage | 12/24 V (automatic detection) |
| Charge current | 10 / 15 / 20 / 30 A (depending on model) |
| Technology | PWM with multi-stage charging |
| Indicators | LEDs (PRS) / LCD display (PR) |
| Protections | Overload, short circuit, reverse polarity, low battery |
| Typical use | Off-grid residential installations, marine, and mobility |
Best practices
- Install the controller close to the battery to reduce losses and improve voltage measurement.
- Respect Isc·1.25 and the appropriate cable section; protect with fuses on PV and battery.
- Set the battery type (if applicable) and check absorption/float voltages recommended by the manufacturer.
- Avoid connecting modules in series with PWM; operate at battery voltage (36/72 cell modules according to 12/24 V).
